Ceasefire Violation Creates Uncertainty in Border Areas

On Saturday night, a ceasefire breach by Pakistan led to a tense atmosphere in the border regions of Rajasthan. However, by Sunday, most towns and cities returned to normalcy.

The night saw a 'blackout' in the state's border areas, with reports of drone activities and sounds of explosions in places like Jaisalmer and Barmer.

According to local resident Revant Singh from Jaisalmer, drone activity was significantly lower compared to the previous two nights. He mentioned to a news outlet, 'Last night was not entirely normal as drone activities were observed in the sky.'

He characterized this as a clear violation of the declared ceasefire. On Thursday and Friday nights, Pakistan had conducted drone attacks in Jaisalmer and Barmer, which were thwarted by the Indian armed forces, with no reports of casualties.

On Saturday, debris from drones and missile-like objects were recovered in several locations across the state. Following the announcement of the ceasefire in the evening, residents of the border areas appeared somewhat reassured, and the situation began to stabilize.

Markets in Jaisalmer and Barmer reopened in the evening, and the 'blackout' in Barmer was lifted. The duration of the 'blackout' was also reduced in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur.

However, as night fell, reports of ceasefire violations emerged again, prompting district administrations in the border districts of Sri Ganganagar, Jaisalmer, and Barmer, along with Phalodi, to issue alerts and reinstate the 'blackout.'

Tarendra Singh from the village of Jhinjhinayali (Fatehgarh) noted, 'We received news of the ceasefire in the evening, and markets reopened, but around 9 PM, drones were spotted in the sky again. We heard explosions, although the activity was less than the previous night.' He added, 'The day started normally. Shops are open, activities have resumed, and there is no fear.'
